FTP Instructions
Berg Engineering Consultants, Ltd. has an FTP site located in house.  You can directly send files from your computer to our servers.  This resource is currently turned off.  Contact Brian Berg Jr. if you need this resource.
FTP:
Ftp is the "File Transfer Protocol" used to transfer files from server to server on the internet.  There are many different programs that support "ftp".  If you are reading this the simplest ftp program you can use is already installed on your machine.
FTP using your web browser:
In the Address Bar in your web browser where it says "http://www.something.com/". Erase this and type ftp://ftp.berg-engineering.com and hit return.  Your browser should open up a blank white screen.  You can now simply drag files and folders from your desktop or explorer window to your browser window and they will be copied to our server.  Be patient it will take longer than copying on your network because it is copying over the internet but your files are going from your machine directly to ours.  When the transfer is complete send an email to the person who needs the files.  That way they know they are there and can move them to where they need them.
FTP using other programs:
When you use ftp with other programs you might have to enter a user name and password. Our server is set up to accept anonymous logins. Use the word anonymous as your login and your email address as your password.
Security:
The ftp area on our server is an anonymous area and is not secure.  (That is what the directions say!  I personally have not found a way to view or retrieve files that were put there by others.)  If your company wants their own separate and secure area please let us know and we can issue you a login and password.  If you have your own secure area you will be able to see the files you left, move them, delete them, update them etc.  If this is something you would be interested in contact Brian Berg Jr.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Why does it look like the files I copied disappeared?

There is security protection on the server.  If after you send the files and your browser refreshes the screen you will not be able to see the files you sent.  Try this for your self.  Send a file then press F5.  Your browser should refresh and there should appear to be nothing in the directory.

Can other people see the files I sent?

Although you can not see your files after you send.  You also can not see the files someone else has sent.  This area on our server is less secure.  We request that you send an email to the person who needs the files after you have left them.  That way they will move them to other area's as soon as possible.

Why can't I access your ftp site?

Our ftp site is only available during business hours.  Like our physical office we close our electronic office doors when the day is over. Our ftp site is different then our web site. You might have typed our address wrong. Please note that our web site is http://www.berg-eng.com while our ftp site is ftp://ftp.berg-engineering.com.

Why can't I send my file?

Did you previously send the file with the same name?  If you did then we might not have deleted or moved it yet. Try sending the file with a different name.  If that works email the person receiving the file and tell them which file is the correct file and have them delete the other one.
